PROJECT STRUCTURAL ENGINEER: Plan and design building projects utilizing a variety of materials, including lumber, steel, and concrete. Perform preliminary structural analysis and load take-offs and design feasible and economical structural systems related to the retrofitting of existing structures. Analyze and design lateral systems for soft-story retrofit buildings such as Ordinary Moment Frames, Special Steel Cantilevered Columns, and Wood Shear Walls. Design systems for enhancing the structural performance of buildings in the event of earthquakes by calculating the loads and stresses a given structure can withstand. Prepare and review design documents and plans to ensure projects are completed in accordance with City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety ordinances. Inspect project sites and survey for risk, reference points, and strength of foundations. Review engineering designs and plans and conduct field verifications before the start of projects in order to avoid inconsistencies during construction. Conduct site visits and monitor structural steel erection, rebar work, and connection framing detailing at the construction site. Prepare daily project reports. Conduct risk assessments on existing structures and develop cost-effective solutions to mitigate structural or environmental risks. Maintain safe and clean working environments by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
Requirements: The position requires a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. This can be substituted with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field and five years of experience in the job offered or related position. The position requires a valid Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)/Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering conferred by the (NCEES) Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. The position requires skills and knowledge in AutoCAD, Revit Structure, ETABS, SAFE, SAP 2000, Bluebeam Revu, ENERCALC, MATLAB, and MS Excel. This position requires little travel – 24% of work time several days but less than 60 days per year.
